International Activities

Geared up for the globalized market

The internationalization strategy of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft follows a clear set of principles: the ultimate aim of strategic overseas cooperation is scientific value creation for Fraunhofer and positive benefits for both Germany and the partner country. Fraunhofer, as an internationally valued and sought-after research partner, finds itself in an ideal position for developing international involvement in a target and benefit oriented way in the years ahead. International research cooperation can have a successful and long-term impact when complementary expertise generates added value for both partners.

International networking, an in-house workforce and multi-level cooperation with prominent international partners help increase the standing of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft as an employer of highly-qualified personnel. Through its international contacts in the field of science, business and politics Fraunhofer represents Germany as a reliable partner to the world and promotes the country as an innovation hub.

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft has affiliates both in Europe and in North and South America. In Asia and in the Middle East Fraunhofer Representative Offices and Fraunhofer Senior Advisors create a bridge to the local markets, while an office in Brussels acts as an interface between Fraunhofer and the European institutions.

In its role as institute for the wind market Fraunhofer IWES Nordwest was quick to develop links with innovative OEMs, operators and suppliers all of whom are involved at international level. The presence of representative offices and consultancies in China, India and Brazil ensures customer proximity and helps provide an awareness and insight into the current situation of the national market.

Many years of successful cooperation in joint research projects, networks and standardisation bodies has created a sustainable network of contacts all round the world. Fraunhofer IWES is involved in the EERA, TP Wind and the EAWE (European Academy of Wind Energy) and plays an active role in the work of the IEC, ISOPE and IEA. (Link) We are also represented on a regular basis at the major wind fairs and international industry conferences.
