Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Reuter Managing Director Fraunhofer IWES Nordwest


Andreas Reuter works as professor for wind energy technology at the Leibniz University of Hannover and managing director of the Fraunhofer wind energy & energy systems technologies institute (IWES) with a total of 150 scientific employees and a well established testing infrastructure.

His education is in aviation and space technology, after completing his doctorial thesis on fatigue of wind turbines at the Technical University of Berlin he has worked in the wind industry for 15 years for companies  as aerodyn, GE Energy and Bharat Forge as project engineer, director of engineering and managing director before returning into the scientific community in 2010.

The main focus of his current work is the structural analysis and design of large components as offshore support structures and rotor blades.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jan Wenske Deputy Director IWES Nordwest

Head of division "Wind Turbine and System Technology"


Jan Wenske was born in 1968, studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Clausthal (1988-1994) with focus on high performance drives and power electronics. He received his PhD in 1999 at the Institut of Electrical Engineering at the TU Clausthal. He worked as project manager within the Pre-Development devision for forklift trucks at the STILL GmbH (2000-2004). Subsequently Prof. Dr. Wenske was in charge of the Department Power Electronics Development at Jenoptik Defense & Civil Systems from 2005 to 2010. Since 2011 he has been deputy director of Fraunhofer IWES Northwest and head of the department “Drive train and System Technology”.

Dr. Antje Wagenknecht, MBA, Branch Manager Fraunhofer IWES Nordwest


Dr. Wagenknecht, MBA studied in Bremen, Tokyo, Münster and Dubai and completed her PhD on the topic of “Floating Structures”. Prior to her activities at Fraunhofer IWES North-West, she held the position of assistant to the Chair of Logistics at the University of Bremen. Furthermore, Dr Wagenknecht has worked in the area of “vocational training” at Airbus Deutschland GmbH. She has been responsible for the areas of strategic development and internationalization as Branch Manager at Fraunhofer IWES North-West since 2012.
